Taskonaklar Hotel – that is a mouthful, trying saying that three times fast!

Taskonaklar mean stone mansions.

Tas = stone
Konak = mansion
lar = suffix making word plural

We had the opportunity to visit the lovely Takonaklar hotel during our family’s visit to Uchisar in the Cappadocia area of Turkey and as the name suggests it is made out of the local stone. For generations people have lived in the caves in this area but over time families moved away. Hotels like this one grew out of those caves, adding on to what was there and creating truly amazing spaces for holidays and relaxing get aways. The old and new blends together for an artistic flair.

The rooms in this hotel are all unique – each one using the existing cave dwellings as the basis of the space. From the smallest to the most luxurious, this hotel is a wonderful place to rest and relax in the fantastic atmosphere of Cappadocia. My kids thought real cave rooms were the coolest thing ever and you know what? They really were cool and in the literal sense of the word, too! The rooms dug into the mountains were wonderfully cool – Mother’s Nature’s air conditioner!

Sit and relax with your morning cup of Turkish tea. Even the kids are HUGE fans of the apple tea and love to sip in the cool morning air.
